These questions are designed to help explain HIV viral load status and the different likelihoods of HIV transmission so the questions only give relevant answers if you know that you are HIV negative. If you've never had an HIV test or haven't had one in a while, you can find out more in our clinic section. These questions also assume the person answering them is not taking PrEP. Please see our PrEP page for more details on PrEP.
What about viral load and other STIs?
Knowing the HIV viral load status of the person you have sex with will only help you manage the risk of HIV transmission. If you have anal sex without using condoms you are still at risk of other STIs like Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea and Syphilis. You can find out more about STIs and how you can test for them on the Steve Retson Project website.
If you have any questions or comments about the interactive HIV and safer sex webpage please email: SteveRetsonProject@ggc.scot.nhs.uk
